Player of the Week: James McOwen
July 5th, 2009 | by nightmare |Okay, so James McOwen isn’t exactly a Mariner and may never be one. But his team, High Desert, is a single-A affiliate of Seattle; and that relationship puts McOwen into the Mariner family, maybe he’s the black sheep second cousin with the funny voice. But he’s in the family.
And he has become only the 20th member of an exclusive club among baseball players. James McOwen became the 20th person every to record a 40+ game hitting streak with a professional baseball team. His ground ball single on Friday night situated his name next to Joe Dimaggio’s in baseball history. So for his 40 game effort, I wish him congratulations and award him this week’s Player of the Week award.
